Mobile & API Security

Security testing for mobile apps and the APIs behind them.

Manual security assessments for iOS and Android applications, carried out by specialists with a background in reverse engineering and bug bounty research.

Industries

Select a sector

Banking & Finance

Money movement and identity are the critical paths. We test whether they can be bypassed or manipulated from the app.

  • Transfers and payments: changing amounts, recipients or limits
  • Login, biometrics, one-time codes and device binding
  • Session handling between the app and the bank's backend
  • How well the app resists tampering on rooted or jailbroken devices

Transportation & Mobility

Ride-hailing, car sharing, ticketing and connected vehicle apps, where the app often controls something in the physical world.

  • Booking, fare and payment logic: free or underpriced trips
  • Exposure and spoofing of rider and driver locations
  • Remote commands such as unlock or start, and who can send them
  • Ticket and QR code validation: reuse and forgery

E-commerce & Retail

Checkout, promotions and customer accounts are where abuse turns directly into financial loss.

  • Checkout: tampering with prices, quantities and discounts
  • Coupons, loyalty points and gift card abuse
  • Account takeover through login and password reset flows
  • One customer being able to see another customer's orders or data

Healthcare

Health data is among the most sensitive data an app can hold. We check where it goes and who can reach it.

  • Access to records, results and prescriptions across patients
  • Health data stored on the device and in backups
  • Appointment and messaging flows between patients and providers
  • Data shared with third-party SDKs and analytics tools

Process

  1. 01

    Scoping

We agree on targets, test accounts, timeline and rules of engagement.

  2. 02

    Manual assessment

Hands-on testing of the app and its APIs, supported by tooling where it helps.

  3. 03

    Reporting

Risk ratings, reproduction steps and remediation guidance for each issue.

  4. 04

    Retesting

Once fixes are in place, we verify them and update the report.

Engagement details

You provide
App builds (IPA / APK), test accounts and API documentation if available.
You receive
A written report with risk ratings, reproduction steps and remediation guidance.
Retest
Included. Fixes are verified and the report is updated.
Confidentiality
Findings and app data are shared only with your team.

About

A specialist, not a generalist.

PRBX Security is an independent security practice focused on mobile applications and APIs. The work is grounded in hands-on research: most of our findings to date have come from mobile apps.

Standards & credentials
  • OWASP MASVS
  • OWASP MASTG
  • OWASP API Top 10
  • OSWE certified
  • Direct access to the tester

The person you talk to during scoping is the person doing the testing.

  • Manual, in-depth testing

Automated scanners are a starting point. Most impactful issues are found by hand.

  • Reverse engineering experience

Being able to look inside the app binary means less is left untested.

  • Reports developers can use

Findings are written to be understood and fixed, not just listed.

FAQ

Do you need our source code?

No. We test the compiled app the same way an attacker would. Access to source code can make testing faster and deeper, but it is optional.

How long does an assessment take?

It depends on the size of the app and its API. We agree on a timeline during scoping, before any work starts.

Will testing affect our production users?

We prefer a staging environment and dedicated test accounts. If production is in scope, limits and timing are agreed in advance.

Can you sign an NDA?

Yes. We can sign your NDA before scoping, so you can share details about the app freely.

Planning a security assessment?

Tell us a little about your app. We'll get back to you to discuss scope and timing.

Helpful to include
  • App name and store link
  • Platforms: iOS, Android or both
  • Whether the API is in scope
  • Rough timeline or release date
